How to Use the Tennis Ball Machine

Objective

This SOP outlines the steps required to effectively operate the tennis ball machine, ensuring proper usage and return procedures.

Key Steps

Step 1: Obtain the Key 0:00

  • Go to the front desk.
  • Request the tennis ball machine key.
  • Exchange your keys with the front desk.

Step 2: Locate the Ball Machine 0:06

  • Walk to the area behind Tennis Court 5.
  • Find the tennis ball machine.

Step 3: Open the Ball Machine 0:14

  • Open the ball machine.
  • If it’s difficult to open, check the latch at the bottom and lift it up.

Step 4: Prepare for Use 0:29

  • Decide whether to use the basket or a ball mower on the court.

Step 5: Plug in the Machine 0:43

  • Plug the machine into one of the following outlets:
    • By Tennis Court 1 (near the gym corner).
    • By Tennis Court 5.

Step 6: Set Up the Machine 1:09

  • Ensure the machine is turned off before setting to bypass.
  • Check the following settings:
    • Height settings (adjust how high or low the balls will shoot).
    • Feed rate (set how many balls to shoot per minute).
    • Speed (set how fast the balls will come out).
    • Spin (choose between top spin, back spin, or no spin).
    • Direction (set to shoot left, center, right, or in a specific order).
    • Spread angle (adjust how wide the balls will shoot).

Step 7: Start the Machine 1:18

  • Turn on the motor by clicking the start button.
  • Flick the switch to bypass to start shooting balls.

Step 8: Picking Up Balls 2:18

  • Set the machine to bypass when picking up balls.
  • You can choose to turn off the motor or leave it on.

Step 9: Return the Machine 2:25

  • Unplug the machine and wrap the cord neatly.
  • Place the machine back in the shed.
  • Lock the machine using the bottom lock.

Step 10: Return the Key 2:49

  • Go back to the front desk.
  • Return the ball machine key to receive your original keys back.

How to Use the Tennis Ball Machine

In this video, I walk you through how to use the Tennis Ball Machine, which is super easy to access from the front desk. Once you have the key, head to the area behind Tennis Court 5, and make sure to check the settings for height, speed, and spin before you start. Remember to unplug and securely lock the machine back up when you’re done. I also request that you return the key to the front desk to get your keys back. Enjoy your practice!
